I hope you had a fantastic weekend! This weekend my family and I took a vacay to Banff, Canada and it was AMAZING! I definitely am going back in the summer 🙂
Alright, so let’s get to today’s blog post! Sometimes it can be hard to think of ways to earn money from horseback riding, but today I am sharing with you 6 ways that you can earn a little extra cash doing something you love. I hope that you enjoy today’s post and find it helpful!
#1: Teach Riding Lessons
The first way you can make money while working with horses is teaching riding lessons. If you have gained experience from horse riding and feel that you are ready to start teaching some riding lessons, I would say go for it! Make sure that you have a horse available that you can use and always run your ideas by the owner of your current barn. I have taught riding lessons to two little girls for a couple of months now and it has been SO much fun! I have learned a lot and definitely have gained more experience.
#2: Braid Horses
You might be surprised by this, but yes, you can earn money braiding horses manes and tails. Isn’t that amazing??! I don’t know about you, but I LOVE braiding, especially horses manes and tails. I find it so relaxing and fun at the same time! If you have friends that attend Horse Shows many times per year, ask them if they need help braiding their horses. Let them know what you charge and the services you offer. You could even create a website or a social media page (Instagram or Facebook) promoting your business. Make sure you know how to do some of the horse show braids like button braids, diamond braids, etc, before you offer your services.
#3: Photograph Horses and Their Riders
I have been recently getting into photography and am going to be starting a photography business soon (I’m SO excited)!! I love doing photo shoots with horses and their riders and capturing those special moments. If you enjoy photography, I definitely suggest learning more about equestrian photography! You can easily start a business by creating a promotional social media page and letting your horsey friends know your prices and what you offer for photo shoots.
#4: Become a Stable Hand
The fourth way you can make money by working with horses is becoming a stable hand at one of your local barns. Contact some barns in your area and see if they are hiring. Usually a stable hand will do tasks like muck stalls, sweep the barn, turnout horses, catch horses, get horses ready for their riders, etc. If you are looking for a part-time job and are passionate about horses, I definitely suggest becoming a stable hand!
#5: Sell your Tack
An easy way to earn some extra cash is to sell the tack that you do not use such as your saddles, bridles, saddle pads, grooming brushes, and more. Sell your tack on a local Facebook group or even on websites like Kijiji. If you are looking at purchasing a new saddle, sell the saddle you don’t use to save money for your brand new saddle!
The last tip I have for you is… babysitting! Are one of your horsey friends going away for the weekend and needs someone to take care of her horses at her farm? Make a little extra money while taking care of your friend’s horses. Not only is it super easy, but it is also super fun and enjoyable because you get to spend time around horses. Talk about a win-win situation!
I really hope that you enjoyed today’s post and now have some ideas on how to earn some extra cash! Until next time… don’t forget to hug your horse 🙂
What is your #1 tip to earning money from horseback riding? I would love to hear your thoughts!
