Personally, I LOVE decorating my room with DIYs and pretty decor. Honestly, I am the person who changes the decor of my room alot! I am sure some of you can relate! I am always looking for new DIY projects to try. Not only do I love decorating my spaces with decor, but I especially love adding a little bit of that equestrian flare. So, today I thought of sharing with you a DIY project I recently completed that is used to store keepsakes, for example, maybe a special horseshoe or one of your horse’s old bits. If you are obsessed with decorating and love horses, I definitely suggest you try out this easy equestrian wall art project! I am going to walk you through the steps to completing this DIY with pictures (for those visual learners out there). Enjoy and happy decorating!
What you will need:
1. Wire (I bought mine from the craft store, Michaels)
2. Hot glue gun
3. Shadow box (I bought mine from Michaels)
4. Decorative paper (I bought the paper from Michaels. Make sure it is long enough to fit the back side of the shadow box)
5. A horse accessory (a bit, a stirrup, a spur, or a horse shoe. For this tutorial I am using a bit)
6. A pair of pliers or scissors
Step 1: Turn over the shadow box and undo the clasps that hold the frame. Then, take off the back part of the frame.
Step 2: Take your hot glue gun and glue the inside of the back of the shadow box that you removed.
Step 3: Press the decorative paper onto the board and make sure it sticks to the glue. Cut off the excess sides of the paper.
Step 4: Place the bit on top of the board and decorative paper. Take a pencil and draw two circles, one on the inside of the bit and another one of the outside of the bit. These circles will be the holes that you will push the wire through.
Step 5: Take the pliers or scissors and make two holes in the places that you drew the small circles.
Step 6: Take the wire and cut it with your pliers about 5 or 6 inches long. Cut two pieces, one for each ring of the bit.
Step 7: Wrap each piece of wire two or three times around each ring of the bit.
Step 8: Push the ends of the wire into the two holes that you cut out. Turn the shadow box over and tie the two ends of the wire together securing each ring of the bit.
Step 9: Secure the back piece into the shadow box by closing the clasps.
Step 10: Hang your DIY project in your home or bedroom. You are finished!
Now, your home or bedroom has some extra equestrian flare. I hope that you enjoyed this DIY project! If you complete this DIY, send me a pic! I would love to chat and see the finished product. Until next time… don’t forget to hug your horse!
