Well, it is officially 2017! I am so excited for what this year is going to offer!
I recently had some inspiration for a blog post when I was figuring out what my New Year resolutions were going to be for 2017. Everyone has goals and dreams in life, so I thought why not write a post on my personal New Year’s resolutions for 2017. Setting our goals before the year starts helps us create a new perspective and a fresh, open mind for the New Year. Today, I am giving you 5 of my New Year’s resolutions as a horseback rider. The awesome thing about New Year’s resolutions is that at the end of the year you can look back and reflect on your goals; what you achieved and what you didn’t. It also helps in setting your goals for the years to come as well.
They are also commitments. They are not just goals you can put off. Start now and create your New Year’s resolutions and follow through with them. It is truly amazing and inspiring to see how much you can accomplish in one year once you set your goals! The new year is a fresh start to a new beginning. Enjoy my resolutions!
1. Attend at least one Arabian Horse Show
One of my goals this year is to attend at least one Arabian Show. To make at least one would be incredible! Arabian Horse Shows are shows that can qualify you for Regionals or Nationals. This is one of my biggest goals for the new year as I really would like to develop as a rider and I feel by attending one of these shows, I could learn a lot.. For me, it doesn’t really matter on how I place at a horse show, but how well I ride. I believe when we as horseback riders can recognize the quality of our ride, this will only make us better riders.
2. Help my horse, Sky, to be in the BEST shape possible
When I first got my horse, Sky, I knew that she would be an amazing horse. Sky is a very fast learner so she picks up things really easily. My second goal for the new year is to help Sky succeed and be in the best shape possible. I really would like to take Sky to a Horse Show because I believe she would do really great in that environment as she is really laid back and easy going. I think that Sky will do great things one day and I want to help her every step of the way.
3. Teach my horse at least one trick
This goal is more like my “fun” goal. I really would like to teach my horse, Sky, how to bow as I have been wanting to for a long time, but have never gotten to it. Teaching a horse a trick also takes a lot of patience. I love watching those Youtube videos that teach you how to teach your horse to bow or spanish walk. I am very excited to start this “fun” goal!
4. Learn to Let go and ride on
As a rider, I feel that it is important to be able to let go when you are riding. I don’t mean physically “let go of your reins” but rather mentally. As a rider, I need to learn to relax a bit more while riding. Sometimes we feel nervous in different situations while we are riding and that doesn’t help us or our horses. As I learn to let go and ride on, I will become more confident and my horse will become more relaxed.
5. Work with Kahari more often
Kahari is one of the horses I ride and she is an Arabian. Recently, Kahari has had quite an attitude or a “mare” attitude (if you know what I mean). Kahari has been biting and constantly pinning her ears back whenever I come around her. What I realized is that Kahari might be blaming me for not working her as often as I want to. I do own a horse, Sky, who I also have to work with so I can’t work with Kahari every single day, but I do need to put in more time with her as well. If I worked Kahari every second day, she would be content and happy, but if I leave her for a few days she seems to grow quite ornery and it feels like I always face a battle with her.. In 2017, I want Kahari to be as happy as she can be. So my goal is to work Kahari more often and spend time with her too.
Well, that’s it! I hope you enjoyed my 5 New Year’s resolutions and that you have some ideas in your head of what your resolutions might be.
Let me know in the comments below at least one of your New Year’s resolutions. I hope that this year will be a great one for all of you:) Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!
